Platt Wins Big Endorsements
Broad Appeal Crosses Party Lines!

May 17, 2008

Democrat Eugene Platt showed that his appeal reaches beyond party lines and unites people of varied political ideologies by winning the nomination of both the South Carolina Green Party at their state convention on May 3 and the South Carolina Working Families Party at their state convention on May 10 for State House Seat 115.

Platt, well known for being an independent-minded James Island Public Service District commissioner, said it was gratifying to see that people seemed to appreciate his 15 years of service with the PSD. He said his proudest accomplishments were protecting the environment from rampant overdevelopment and recently persevering in the controversial fight to ensure the James Island Fire Department received the funding it needed to do its job.

In his 2006 campaign, in which he came within 40 votes of unseating the 3-term Republican incumbent, Platt circulated a list of local Republicans who endorsed his campaign as a sign of his ability to unite people of different ideologies and how dissatisfied residents were with the level of service they’d been getting from the incumbent.

Platt says he started earlier this election season, is working harder and is hopeful about winning the Democratic Primary on June 10th. He hopes that his placement on 3 parties’ ballot lines will convince swing voters that he will represent all the people of the district regardless of which party they belong to.
